What accessories should I wear with my black dress to attend a wedding?

I have an awesome black dress I am going to wear to a wedding, and I will probably wear a sheer black shirt if I feel like covering up a bit more. I have black shoes that look good, but then the whole outfit looks too funeral-y. I need some accessories to dress it up. Give me your ideas or vote:
-shoes-my black heeled ones OR should I find some cheap black sandals that have beads on the straps?
-jewelry-silver? purple? blue? pink? orange? big earrings or small? bracelet? honestly, I’m lost in this area, what would you do?
-purse-I have a black one, but thinking maybe I should get a colored one to jazz it up. What color? A handbag or one that goes across my shoulder?

Oh, oops, I’m not in the wedding party or anything, just going as a guest. I should have said that before, sorry.

I suggest a white belt to go across your black dress. It would look formal yet modern.

dont wear black. you are not going to a funeral (unless you are going to a funeral afterwards). wear light colors to a wedding

da whole idea of wearing black in a wedding is kinda wacky!! so maybe u can wear somthing dat suits da occasion. sumthing lovely and not to bright nor very dull.

a white hat and white flower. maybe a belt and paint your nails a bright colour. definately sandals and paint toe nails too!!! take a small white bag and remember one foot in front of the other! no tripping! happy weddings

A wedding is usually viewed as being a formal affair. I would definitely recommend pearls as they can dress up any outfit. I think a double strand of medium -sized pearls will do the trick. Don’t forget the earrings, the options are limitless, just make sure they are pearls also. Now for the shoes, if you have nice looking legs go for the nice, slinky slingback without hose. A pair done in a black silk finish with some type of embellishment would be really hot. Your handbag should either match or COMPLEMENT your shoes, I would go for one that hangs from the wrist, as these are nice for evening wear. This is nice but not too stuffy…

SIMPLE, I HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE…I GOT A LOT OF NICE COMMENTS FROM THIS.

WHAT I WORE WAS: OF COURSE A BLACK DRESS. SHOES, IS BLACK WHEN TINY BEADS OR COULD BE A DIFFERENT COLOR, BUT THE KEY IS THE PURSE HAVE TO BE SIMILAR TO THE SHOE. GO FIND SOMETHING THAT MAYBE HAVE THE SAME TEXTURE, OR BEADS OF THE SAME COLOR. GO TO PAY-LESS SHOES, THEY ALWAYS HAVE CUTE SHOES WITH MATCHING PURSES, THAT IS IF YOU ARE ON A BUDGET!

FOR ACCESSORY: WEAR LONG/BIG EARRINGS, DANGLING ONES IF YOU HAVE THEM, I PREFER IN SILVER OR IN GOLD WITH A TOUCH OF SHININESS. BRACELET, I DON’T RECOMMEND YOU WEAR IT AT ALL, BECAUSE IT IS TOO OVERPOWERING. BUT YOU CAN WEAR A DELICATE BLACK LEATHER STRAP WATCH. DON’T FORGET THE NECKLACES, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. USUALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE YOU ARE WEARING BLACK. MAKE SURE THIS IS THE SAME COLOR AS YOUR EARRING WITH SIMILAR DESIGN.—YOU WILL POP OUT, TRUST ME—-AND HAVE FUN AT THE WEDDING.

I recently attended a quite fancy wedding where the girl attendants all wore strapless black dresses and black, rubber flip-flops! I am not making this up! My step-daughter was the only one wearing regular shoes and she felt out of place. The rest of the wedding was pretty formal. Most people had on nice clothes I think maybe one or two women wore black and some grown men wore jeans and shirts. Given where the wedding was held and the food, this cost a small fortune. I would have been insulted if people had come to my wedding like that. Please show some class and wear something more traditionally appropriate. Just because others don’t know how to dress doesn’t mean you have to follow. If you decide to wear the black dress, I’d wear yellow or any other color that looks good on you. And do wear some cute, strappy sandles to make it look less formal and funeral-y.

Don’t find cheap shoes, get some cute black leather pointed toe stilletto slingbacks! Those always dress up an outfit. Wear simple silver jewelery, don’t go overboard. You’re a guest, so don’t outshine the bride. As for a purse, Get a small black beaded clutch, some are probably there for/from prom. Have fun at the wedding!

U dont wear black to a wedding… that against all fashion rule! Everybody kno that! Black is for funerals only and any other colors are for weddings.

Add some light color, turquoise or a light blue is always good. If you just tied the same color of scarf on your hand bag you couldn’t need a knew one. Also sandals would be little more care free and fun loving.

Even if you are just going as a guest you should not wear black to a wedding unless you want to wish the couple a bad marriage. Black is a funeral color, not a wedding color. you need to find another outfit to wear to the wedding and save your Awesome black dress for a date with someone special, and evening out on the town or your ex-boyfriends funeral (just joking on the ex boyfriend’s funeral remark). That black dress can be worn on other occassions. i would not wear it to the wedding.

I would definitely add colored accessories, but keep it simple. Maybe some silver jewelry such as bangles and small hoop earrings, and a fun purse that is not black.

If I were you, I would fing some black sandals with colored beads…after that I would base everything else on those beads. Like if the beads were red, small red earings, red and black purse, u get the point…

How about gold jewellery…..or pearls….a white hat, black strappy sandals white bag to go with the hat and a nice white flower on your lapel or tucked in your cleavage?A nice red lipstick to brighten everything up. If you wear gloves then some nice long white gloves also.

I agree about wearing black to a wedding, you shouldn’t. It may sound old fashioned, but it is incorrect and this is one occasion where it is important to be correct. Unless of course it is a black and white wedding–popular in early 90’s, but it probably isn’t.

How about a great dress or skirt/top combo in some shade of turquoise–everyone can wear turquoise and it’s never out of style. Perfect for a wedding and many more summer and spring occasions to come. The outfit doesn’t have to be overly fancy, you can accessorize with interesting jewelry, purse, bag or shoes that would also work with that great black dress.

Yes, get a bright pastel small purse.
Wear 2 or3 slightly chunky long strand necklaces of beads in beautiful pastel or bright colors. Also try adding a string or several strings of fake pastel pearls around your neck.
Try to find a pair of shoes that compliment or match the necklaces. A matching bracelet would look great with the necklace.

If you wear the necklace, don’t wear ear rings. It makes you look too over done.

You CAN wear earings and a bracelet at the same time, as long as you don’t wear the necklaces.

Nobody carries a purse that is the same color as the dress anymore. It’s all about pairing colors that compliment each other now.

I attended my daughter’s wedding in a black gown that she selected for me. I dressed it up with pearl earrings and necklace and wore white flowers in my hair. It went over quite well.

Well, first you didn’t state what time of the year this wedding is and two, what type of wedding it is. Is it formal or semi-formal? Is it during the spring, summer of fall time? These queestions can give you a better understanding in what accessories to have. Overall I think as for jewelary a simple set of pearl earrings and a pearl necklace will set off a black dress very nicely no matter what season it is. If you want to add a splash of colour silver, gold, bronze (for the summer) and a pastel colour like yellow, sky blue or yellow will like do nicely also. As for shoes for the spring and summer where either some high heel slingbacks or mules and for the fall some elegent pumps.

OK, you need to look great without stealing the show. With the dress go for beaded black sandals but not cheap looking ones. Jewelry: Don’t go too jazzy. Stick with beeds that match your sandals. Hand-Bag: Go with the black one. To spice things up always think modest, not over the top. Try to stick with darkish beeds for your jewelry, and sandals.
