What are the pros and cons of beauty pageants?

you feel important
get to dress up
wear makeup
raise your confidence
feeling beautiful
make friends and meet new people
winning prizes!
cons-
not winning
not feeling pretty enough
dealing with jealous girls who want to sabatoge
embarrassment
diasappointment and jealousy toward other girls
doing stuff like starving yourself to prepare
having a distorted concept of beauty
costs to prepare for it
pros: Self-esteem booster.
Cons: it is expensive it’s todays days economy, If you lose it lowers self esteem.
beauty is in the eye of the beholder,,,,,, thats the answer for both pro and con
don’t worry about it u have no chance at being in one
they make pretty girls feel good, they make ugly girls feel bad.(:
THAT FIRST ANSWER WAS COMPLETELY UNCALLED FOR.
That’s one of the reason beauty pageants are not a good idea, they subject females to a superficial idea of what beauty really is. Beauty doesn’t only come in blonde, size 2, It comes in all shapes and forms and even some of the most "beautiful" people, by societies standards, are very ugly people on the inside. I would never put my girls in pageants, It would only serve to teach them that beauty is everything, then what would happen if they lost it? They’d be ruined, if your raised to think that’s all there is and it’s gone, then you’d fall apart."Beauty" is the least of attributes that I hope my children have, I don’t want them to be disfigured, but if it happens , then I hope they know that they have value, other than their appearance.
Pros: The prize in the end (if you win)
Con: You put on pounds of make up, you make corny speeches, you demonstrate you stuff (talents) you wear girly, yucky, clothes, and if you mess up, you’re outta there!
to be honest my pros/cons are very imbalanced but here u go (keeping in mind i am not an expert on pageants so may not have a lot of validity):
pros:
-can be a fun girly thing to do
-can boost self-esteem
cons:
-sends the message that u have to be perfect in every way (looks, personality, talent, etc)
-enforces a perfectionist bar that cannot be reached
-encourages comparing girls to other girls and passing judgement
-its lots of money/energy spent on winning something that accomplishes nothing
-sends the message that looks are the most important thing
well they help ur self estime
Cons: They objectify people’s worth based upon
a) looks
b) useless talents
c) giving politically correct responses to predictable questions (because I care a whole lot what some bimbo has to say about saving the children in Africa)
Pros:
I got nothing.
